Anything You Want
The book I’m reviewing today is Anything You Want written by Derek Silvers.
This book is about entrepreneurship but I believe it helps many people from all walks of life.
I’m not an entrepreneur (yet). I’m just an English teacher at a university. But this really helped me think about my own job even though my job doesn’t usually involve thinking about making money.
I picked up some points that resonated with me.
Here it goes! Enjoy!
What Makes You Happy?
Many people don’t know why they are doing what they are doing. They just watch others and imitate them.
The important thing is to look for and focus on what makes YOU happy, not what everybody thinks is important.
“Business is not about money. It’s about making dreams come true for others and for yourself.” (No. 63/775)
I thought this is related to what Lewis Howes said in his podcast with Ali Abdaal in Build Multiple Income Streams, Habits to Become Millionaire, and How to Gamify Your Productivity with Ali Abdaal.
He said something like, if you just focus on making more money, you will lose sense of meaning or purpose eventually.
To really develop yourself and not to lose purpose, you will need spiritual growth and need to think more about how you can serve more people.
“Never forget why you’re doing what you’re doing. Are you helping people? Are they happy? Are you happy? Isn’t that enough?” (No. 319/775)
Keep Improving
Keep improving and inventing. That will lead to success. Stop doing what’s not working.
If something is not a hit, stop doing it and try to improve and invent a new approach.
Screw the Funding and Planning
Decide everything based on your customers. If you want to make your business bigger, is it for your customers or just to look good?
Think ALWAYS about your customers. Ask yourself how you can help your customers best.
You can start anytime. You don’t need funding to start your business.
Start by serving one person. You can always find someone who would happily pay you for what you do. You can grow it from there. By starting small, you can pour your 100% energy for solving real problems of your customers.
You don’t need a plan or vision either. Just focus on helping your customers in front of you.
About Ideas
Ideas are worthless unless it’s executed. Start making actions. It doesn’t matter how small the step is.
Delegation
Make your business work and go on without you.
